Hey there!

I’m Caroline!

Caroline McGah is a New England-based author, illustrator, designer & maker whose work often focuses on the wild beauty of nature, the magic of imagination, the radiating power of kindness & bringing people together.

She graduated from The University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication (Graphic Design), a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting & a Minor in Art History. She is a late in life-diagnosed dyslexic & ADHDer, who loves her funky neuro-spicy brain & feels passionately that when harnessed, these are super powers that leave her bursting with creativity.

Previously, Caroline was the owner, artist & designer behind Lovely Paper Things, a custom boutique design studio which focused on celebrating life’s hoorays & yays. Unveiling her clients’ unique stories inspired her to experiment with an array of mediums, hone her vibrant painting style & thoughtfully bring visual stories to life. All of which have become stepping stones which have led her to the beautiful world of children’s literature.

Caroline grew up with an untamed nature park behind her childhood home in the midwest where she’d frolic in the native prairie grass, inspect insects, swoon over wildflowers, go on nature walks collecting all sorts of treasures, climb trees pretending she was a pirate & traverse raveens like they were the grand canyon.

Her love of nature’s tiny wonders started in that park & fuels her creativity & influences her work to this day. When she’s not making art she can be found playing make believe, catching bugs, watching stars, building fairy houses, baking up a storm, traveling around the world, nerding out over art, history & science & searching for shells — all with her wild crew of three clever little gals, very patient husband & one shockingly giant goldfish.

tid-bits

She loves history, traveling to lands far different than her own & chatting up strangers. Whimsy little dittys make her chuckle. She has a fondness for anything & anyone vintage—the more imperfect, the better! She is constantly listening to audio books, & always picks the outside table at restaurants. She’s a windows down, music on, sunshine is magic kind of gal. She’s on team dog, but loves all wild animals. Her love language is food — making, sharing, eating, creating, it’s good for the soul! Her studio is full of plants, bits & bops from around the world & her children's masterpieces!
